These terms cover your use of www.thenewbornlist.com. The site is run by Jake, sole trader trading as The Newborn List, based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these terms.

What The Newborn List does

We generate a personalized shopping list based on your due date and answers to a short questionnaire. The list is our best-effort guidance — not medical advice, not a professional recommendation for any specific baby or situation.

Your account

• You must be at least 16 to sign up.
• Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
• Provide accurate information when you sign up. You can update your account details any time.
• You can delete your account at any time; see our privacy policy for what happens to your data afterwards.

Content and recommendations — read this bit

The point of the site is to give you a useful starting list. That is guidance, not:

• medical advice — talk to your midwife, doctor, or health visitor for anything health-related;
• a warranty of any specific product's safety, quality, or suitability;
• a substitute for reading current safety guidance from the manufacturer, regulators (MHRA, Trading Standards, NHS, RoSPA), or product-specific certifiers.

For safety-critical items — car seats, cribs, cot mattresses, sleep sacks, monitors, and any other item where failure carries real risk — check the manufacturer's instructions, current safety standards, and up-to-date NHS or RoSPA guidance yourself before buying or using. We take reasonable care with our recommendations, but the final decision is yours.

Prices, availability, and product specifications on affiliate links change over time. We can't guarantee that anything we surface is currently in stock or at the price shown. See our affiliate disclosure for how we choose products.

How we choose products

Product recommendations are ranked fit first, margin as a tiebreaker. If two products are an equally good fit for your inputs, we prefer the one that earns us a higher commission. We never surface a worse-fit product for margin reasons. Full detail in our affiliate disclosure.

What you own, what we own

• You own your list content — the answers you give, the items you tick, the notes you add.
• We own the site design, the codebase, the catalog data, and the generation logic.

Sharing lists

If you enable the share link on your list, anyone with the URL can view the list and mark items as "bringing this." That's the whole point of the feature — but treat the share URL like a public web page, because that's effectively what it becomes once you send it to anyone. You can revoke sharing at any time from the list page.

What you can't do

• Use the site for anything illegal.
• Try to break, scrape, or overwhelm the site.
• Use someone else's account, or let someone else use yours.
• Copy the catalog, list generation logic, or product recommendations wholesale for another commercial site.

Availability

We aim to keep the site up but can't guarantee it. We may take it down for maintenance or without notice if we have to. Free service, no SLA.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law:

• We don't warrant that the site or any recommendation will be fit for your specific circumstances.
• We're not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on our recommendations — particularly for safety-critical items, where the responsibility to verify current safety guidance sits with you (see above).
• We're not liable for the products themselves. Once you click through to an affiliate retailer, their terms and consumer-protection obligations apply.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for anything we're not legally allowed to limit — death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of your consumer statutory rights.

Suspending or terminating your account

We may suspend or delete your account if you seriously break these terms. If we do, we'll tell you why unless there's a legal reason not to.

Changes to these terms

If we materially change these terms we'll email you (if you have an account) and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use after a change means you accept it; if you don't, you can delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales. Any dispute goes to the courts of England & Wales, unless you're a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, in which case you can bring proceedings in your local courts.
